SUMMARY:Presentation event of ACEBaltic
DESCRIPTION:On December 14\, the Estonian Academy of Sciences will host the inaugural event of the Association of Spanish Researchers in the Baltic Countries (ACEBaltic). Jointly organized by ACEBaltic and the Embassy of Spain in Estonia\, with funding from the Fundación Ramón Areces\, the event will bring together a vibrant community of researchers\, policymakers\, and science enthusiasts. \nThe program (see full program at the end) will run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The morning will start with some welcoming words by the Ambassadors of Spain in Estonia and in Lithuania and will follow with an outline of the past activities of the association of Spanish Researchers in Estonia (ACEE) and the journey towards the creation of the Baltic association. Then\, we will present the activities planned for 2025. \nWe are very honored to have the presence and participation of high representatives of the Spanish and Baltic Science systems. With them\, we will discuss after lunch the problem of incorporating young researchers to more established positions and how the different countries are tackling this issue. \nA key feature of the day will be the AstrónomAs exhibition\, a project from Spain that celebrates the contributions of women in astronomy. We are proud to announce that Estonian astronomers have now been added to this initiative\, and\, to close the event\, we will present the exhibition with the new names. SUMMARY:ACEBaltic celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025
DESCRIPTION:The commemorative event will be held at Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius\, Lithuania)\, on February 11 th. It aims to be an inspiring milestone for women and girls to progress in their scientific vocation with determination\, as well as an awareness of the importance of authorities\, institutions\, academia and society working together to achieve one of the significant challenges of our days: making the scientific community a more prosperous\, inclusive and equal space. \nThe celebration will start in the morning with an institutional and academic event where relevant scientists\, authorities and institutional representatives from Spain and the Baltics will participate as speakers. This will be followed by the presentation of the international exhibition AstrónomAs\, which portrays the career of outstanding women in astronomy. In the afternoon\, a career discovery workshop will be held in the for high school students\, under previous registration. Female researchers and university students will lead the session to foster closer communication and provide young students with credible role models close to their age. \nThis event is part of ACEBaltic’s action plan for 2025. The first focuses on collaborative research\, showcasing concrete examples of joint scientific projects between Spain and the Baltic countries. The second addresses gender equality in science and academia\, bringing together prominent experts and institutional figures to compare approaches and reflect on shared challenges. The third explores multilingualism and the role of Spanish as a scientific language\, highlighting the importance of linguistic diversity in knowledge production. \nIn the evening\, the event will transition to a cultural programme at the Theatre Museum\, offering a warm and informal setting for continued exchange. DESCRIPTION:The Association of Spanish Scientists in the Baltic Countries (ACEBaltic) invites the academic and institutional community to participate in the Women in Science (WinS) International Conference\, an international forum dedicated to advancing gender equality in science through research\, dialogue\, and policy exchange. \nThe conference will take place on 11–12 February 2026 at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius\, Lithuania\, in the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The event is co-organized by Mykolas Romeris University and ACEBaltic\, with the collaboration of the Embassy of Spain in Lithuania\, the Ramón Areces Foundation\, and the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA). \nWinS will bring together institutions\, policymakers\, researchers\, and educators from all fields of knowledge\, fostering interdisciplinary perspectives on gender equality in science\, higher education\, and innovation. SUMMARY:First Edition of the “Antonia Ferrín Moreiras” Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Astronomy and Astrophysics (Baltic Countries).
DESCRIPTION:The Association of Spanish Scientists in the Baltic Countries (ACEBaltic) is pleased to announce the First Edition of the “Antonia Ferrín Moreiras” Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Astronomy and Astrophysics in the Baltic Countries. This award honors the legacy of Prof. Dr. Antonia Ferrín Moreiras\, a pioneer of Astronomy as the first Spanish woman to be awarded a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics. The prize aims to recognize outstanding doctoral research in the field. The call is open to PhD theses defended between the 1st of January 2020 and the 31st of December 2025 universities in Lithuania\, Latvia\, and Estonia. Applications will be accepted from 11th February to 30th March 2026. The award includes a monetary prize of €1\,500\, as well as a medal and/or diploma\, and will be presented at the Award Ceremony in Vilnius on the 21st of May 2026. \nApplications must be submitted by email to info@acebaltic.eu. DESCRIPTION:La Asociación de Científicos Españoles en los Países Bálticos (ACEBaltic) se complace en anunciar la Primera Edición del Premio “Antonia Ferrín Moreiras” a la Mejor Tesis Doctoral en Astronomía y Astrofísica en los Países Bálticos. Este premio honra el legado de la Dra. Antonia Ferrín Moreiras\, pionera de la astronomía como la primera mujer española en obtener un doctorado en Astronomía y Astrofísica. El premio tiene como objetivo reconocer la investigación doctoral de excelencia en el campo. La convocatoria está abierta a tesis doctorales defendidas entre el 1 de enero de 2020 y el 31 de diciembre de 2025 en universidades de Lituania\, Letonia y Estonia.
